Dr Sophie McGilvray

Dr Sophie McGilvray is a Pain Medicine and Palliative Care Specialist consulting at Bayside Pain Management, with previous public appointments at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Royal Melbourne Hospital. She is currently working in the Acute Pain Service at Epworth Richmond whilst returning from maternity leave.

Sophie obtained her Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Notre Dame in Sydney in 2012. She was invited to present her research at an International Palliative Care conference in 2022.

She had two publications in international pain journals in 2023.

Sophie has special interests in cancer pain, pain in cancer survivorship, persistent post-surgical pain, resilience training and trauma-informed care in all chronic pain conditions.


Sophie is committed to holistic, multidisciplinary care when it comes to managing pain. She is actively interested in the impact your pain is having on your quality of life and will work with you to achieve your goals in improving pain and related disability.

Her hobbies include pilates, yoga, tennis, meditation, and running around after her small children.
